Lost but now found - GPS-Hiker

Another program that works GPS-Hiker on the iPhone.

  • Free is good.... working on first try is GRrrrreat !!!
  • Can download custom maps to work off-line or outside of cell reception
  • Connect iPhone to MAC OS X and look for the "app" by clicking the top row of iTunes to see icon below.
  • For me, I like "Phone to Mac" to see all the way into the murky iPhone directory tree. Then, I use drag & drop to grab the GPX file.
  • Export GPX file with track and waypoints using email
  • Integrate the GPX file for uploading into EveryTrail
Follow on Blogspot - GPS-Hiker

Google goes here but it looks like a distribution site that includes GPS-Hiker

Taming the Wild Lion

Sorry folks this is the Lion OS X software and not the African feline.

Using the "Previews" application has been a frustration because it keep accumulating files under the "Windows" tab (next to Help).  The long list just never seemed to go away. I could re-start the machine, or even turn off the box.  The files stuck under Window in Previews had ever-lasting life.

Finally, I found a long blog where other unhappy Lion-users expressed their dismay.  Boy, criticizing a feature offered by one of Apple's engineers is likely to generating fiery commentary.  Well, how did I get there? Try Googling  "preview os x retains old files window".

Here's a solution:
Close Preview stroking the keyboard Cmd+Option+W
For the visually challenged that is ⌘+⌥+W

That flushes the open files out of the program.  The next time Preview opens the list under Window will be clean.  This works when closing other applications too.

Viola!

Imbed Photo in Body of Email

Inserting image into body of email - embed the image.  Why?  Well, I did know about turning on the image in Gmail.  For example, go to the settings gear box in the upper right of Gmail, select "settings", then select "Labs", enable inserting "images", and finally, "save" the changes.  Okay, it's not the best English form but it should get the job done.         / humor

Imagine this fellow as your drill sergeant or you roomie at the gray bar manor.  In either situation, he's likely to have your complete attention.

I used the word art in MS Word to make the transparent button and layered that onto a photo in PowerPoint to get Bubba with a Video Button. Then, I clipped (screenshot) Bubba and saved him as a JPEG file.

All of this is a set-up on how to link the photo to a website. See Carl White's Marketing Hints for the day.

Carl is visiting Sedona and giving good advice on video marketing.  If you check out Carl White's videoblog, there is a link to the transparent button.

MapCard and EarthPoint Software

Another piece of software that works - MapCard.  There are times when the legal description just does not make sense.  There are times when I just want the comfort of having the machine put the pin on the map. Well, MapCard is the ticket.

You can even upload a GPX track onto the MapCard.  The map product can even be the foundation for a graphic summary linking the legal description to an aerial photo or a topographic map, which is illustrated in the sample map.

Some fellow with a big hat and hailing from the White Mountains of Arizona gave me the hint to try this program.  Thanks.

Another mapping fan from Jonesboro gave me a link to EarthPoint, which offers similar features.  EarthPoint allows viewing the Townships and Range as overlays onto the Google Earth program.  For $10, the pay as you go test seems to be a fair product on EarthPoint.
